People Around the World

American flag and apple pie
The children each choose a country to study. We involve the family by asking the parents to find out about the country's flag, food, customs and cultural diversities.
At the end of the unit we hold our Olympics and make t-shirts with last name of each child, the country each child represents and the flag on the shirt.
On field day, the parents are asked to make and bring the food that represents their country.
We have 3-legged races, egg and spoon races etc.... and the children get to sample food from around the world.
We also make a torch ( with a fake flame) to pass the torch.
We have lots of fun. Don't forget the ribbons or medallions for all the winners (all of the children).
